Let's Talk About It

So enough is enough with the absence here. I’m not about to follow Mr. Halliday down the road of disappearance. I’ll save you the promise of posting detailed descriptions of my recent journeys. You all know full well I’ll never get to it. Not that these past few weeks haven’t been magnificent; they have, I just don’t have the mental energy stores to try and recount every emotion and excursion for you on this silly web log. The start of base has come and gone and I find myself comfortably settled into the daily grind that is the off season. I’ve gone about upping both duration and intensity this winter (as is logical in the case of a wee grasshopper such as myself) and what do you know, my body has taken it upon itself to up the exhaustion as well! No complaints here though; there’s really no other feeling that leaves me content at the end of the day. Something about laying there in bed with the lights out at 9:30 makes everything seem right in the world. Tomorrow morning the winter wonderland will welcome me back from these tropical climates with open arms and frost bitten fingers. It’s been a nice retreat down south but, honestly, I’m not disappointed to get back inland where the roads elevate at places other than the intercostals’ overpasses. These flat beach routes have there appeal, but after four hours along the coast you might as well be sitting on your trainer surrounded by palm tree wall paper. A little running and mornings in the water have helped break up the time in the saddle and keep my sit bones from settling into a constant state of numbness. As they say, your heart can’t tell the difference between spinning circles and pounding pavement., and at this time of year, anything that makes it go thump is fine with me. If nothing else, a little bone density can’t hurt, right? Delilah is outside patiently waiting to be put in her box for tomorrow’s flight, so I’d better be getting on that. She hates it when I make her wait.
