Motor Pacing
Just a glimpse into all the secret training I've been doing out here in Park City.
Went out for a few hours on the road bike again today to get some more steady miles in. I met up with Blake out on the road and we did the same route I did yesterday, just in reverse, with a nice 15 minute shallow climb thrown in and a flying descent down one of the bigger passes.. They hold a Hill TT series on this climb that happens next Thursday. Its only about 6k and slopes about 6%. I think I'm going to do it. I hope its not USCF sanctioned so I can ride my mountain bike. Seeing as how that's the only bike that I'll be racing on anytime soon, its all the more important to do as many of those race efforts in that same position. Muscle memory and all that... At the base of this climb, a guy coming from the other direction turned onto it just as we were about to make the turn ourselves. We were just soft peddling as Blake had a few openers to come. This guy ( in yellow shorts and an old Mappe jersey ) attacked like there was a yellow jersey waiting for him at the top. Blake soon went off on his openers and passed the guy with ease. As I peddled steady behind, this guy was out of the saddle every chance he got, and looking back to check his gap every five seconds. I was laughfing so hard I could barely keep the bike up. I purposely took my sweet time catching him over the next 6 minutes, just to make him keep his effort going. Props to him for digging so deep for what im sure is his weekly tour de France fantasy ride. When I finely went by, he asked me how many watts I was averaging for the climb. I told him I didn't know and that it was my first time up the climb. He told me I was riding amazing. I told him the same, and rode off to chuckle to myself... Big weekend on the horizon. I should get some sleep.
